🧡 Who we are

At About Collab we make art with teams and organisations.

Because we believe something happens when people build something together
with their hands: they get into a flow, they talk to each other differently,
and it leaves an impression they remember afterwards.

We make art workshops and events for companies all over the Netherlands.
Hands-on, playful, and built so everybody can join in.

Our formats include The Art of Play (a collab with NGO Right to Play),
Art of Personalities, Art of Values and Art of Creativity.
And we make many tailor-made versions for special requests.

Every workshop or event ends with one collective artwork
made by the participants, which goes back with them to be hung in their office.

We are a small, growing start-up, so you will work, experience and learn
in the middle of it all, and see every side of the business.

📍 Where you
will be working

Our home base is Het Salon Ateliers,
right next to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station.

It is not an office. It is a working art hub:
studios full of makers doing very different things, exhibitions opening next door and events happening around us.

You will be in the middle of a real creative community, with all kinds of craftsmanship going on around you.
That is where we build. Then we load our van and drive to companies and events across the country, to make people happy with making a collective artwork together.

🪚 What you will do

No two days look the same. One day you are sawing wood in the studio.
The next day you help finish and retouch the artwork made by a workshop group,
and the day after you are building an event on location somewhere in the country.

Activities like:

Building and preparing the artworks. Think about building wooden canvases, cutting mosaic tiles, making and painting frames and putting installations together.
Sawing and woodworking.
Building, styling and breaking down events on location, alongside us.
Finishing art pieces so they are ready to go up on a wall.
Helping shape new workshops and artworks.
Working ideas up into something we can build. Like sketching, choosing materials, figuring out how it holds together.
Potentially: capturing what we make, and running our socials. Shooting photos and video during workshops, and turning them into posts on our Instagram and LinkedIn.

🔨 And you get a project of your own

Next to the day-to-day activities, you take on one bigger project. Something real that we actually need, that fits your school curriculum, and that you carry from the first idea through to the finished thing. You choose which one, once you have been with us a few weeks and know how we work. Whichever you pick, you won’t be doing it alone: you design it, we talk it through together, and then you build it, with our help.

Some example projects to get your hands on:

1. A smarter way to build our workshops
Every workshop is currently built from scratch, one job at a time. We want someone to rethink how we make things: what could be designed once and reused, what could be built in batches, what materials and construction make sense. The result is a set of repeatable designs that keep the craft but bring down the cost of every build.

2. The mobile unit for the van
Every workshop means loading a lot of material in and out of the van, and we’ve long outgrown our small cart Peter built. You would measure, design, and build a proper mobile unit, aka cool cart, around what we actually carry and the van it lives in — then watch it get used in the field and improve what doesn’t work.

3. Building out a new studio
We’re likely moving into a new space, and like our current studio, everything from storage to work surfaces will need to be designed and built. That’s a serious build with real design decisions in it, and you’d be part of it from the start.

We will teach you completely different things.

Peter (Dutch)
The maker & presenter

Peter is the artist and builder behind everything About Collab makes.
He designed and built our studio, the workshop structures, the frames, the tools we work with:
if it exists in wood, he made it.
He knows craft, construction, and materials from years of hands-on work, and he knows the part you can't learn from a drawing: how an event actually gets made, transported, set up, and run on location with a client watching.
As your practical supervisor, he's who you'll design with, build with, and learn the trade from day to day.

Helena (Brazilian)
The business side

Helena studied business and economics and worked for years as a product manager in tech.
She has used AI to build the entire operational system our company runs on — finances, marketing, client administration, reporting.
If it interests you, she can teach you how that works, hands-on: you'll see the real system and get your own projects to build in Claude Code, the AI tool she runs it with.
This way of working is very new, almost nobody is passing it on yet, and learning it now, at the start of your career, is a foundation you'll keep building on wherever you go.

✅ Who we are looking for

Hands-on and curious. You pick things up and you like learning something new.
Handy with wood and tools, or keen to get there.
Enterprising. You want to get properly good at making artworks, frames and canvases.
English. That is the language we mostly work in.
Good with people.
Easy to work alongside.
Curiosity about technology and AI is a plus, but you do not need to know anything about it yet.

You do not need to be able to do all of this yet.
Wanting to learn counts for more with us.
Nice to have, not required: a driving licence and Dutch.

If your school works to different dates, tell us and we will look at it together.

It is active physical work.
Building, lifting, loading the van and unloading it again on location.
That is part of preparing a workshop, and a real part of the job.
